What's the purpose of this website?

I'm glad you asked! I'm currently enrolled in a graduate class about Media & Technology and our course-long assignment is to create and update a website that utilizes different technologies.  The topic of the website was our choice and I chose finance for twenty-somethings.

I want this website to be a point of origin for young adults who are trying to get their finances in order and learn the best ways to save, invest, and pay off debt.  Since I am no financial expert, I will be researching nearly everything that I post on this website and sending you to other sources that have good information as well.  I want you to learn about finance right alongside of me and we can conquer our money woes together!  A blog is coming soon and we can use it to discuss different tricks and techniques for how to get the most from your money.

Let's get started!

Erin Burt, a contributing editor for Klipinger.com, made this great list of 10 Financial Commandments for Your 20s.  Follow these rules and you'll be in good shape!

  1. Plan ahead. (Planning makes things happen.)
  2. Live within your means. (If you can't afford it, don't buy it.)
  3. Make saving a habit. (Pay yourself first!)
  4. Pay off your credit cards. (High interest rates suck.)
  5. Start investing. (The sooner you start, the more money you'll accumulate.)
  6. Establish credit. (To qualify for the best interest rates, loans, mortgages, etc.)
  7. Have a marketable skill. (Your skills are your most valuable assets!)
  8. Cut the financial umbilical cord. (Stop relying on mom and dad.)
  9. Marry wisely. (Be a team with similar financial values.)
  10. Have some fun! (Being smart doesn't mean you can't have a life.)
